About the Friends
The Friends of the Pima County Public Library was organized in 1969 as a volunteer non-profit organization to support the Pima County Public Library. We encourage the use of the Library's resources and services, promote the value of the library to the community and provide funds for special needs.
Among the many projects the Friends have helped fund in recent years are:
- Eckstrom-Columbus Branch Library Rededication Celebration
- Wheeler Taft Abbett Branch Library Groundbreaking Ceremony
- Summer Reading Program
- Learn, Read, Grow Succeed! Library Card Campaign
- MyLibrary DV 50% of funding for initial subscription
- Nancy Pearl's Picks
- Ravenous Readers
- TumbleBooks online collection of animated, talking picture books
- Project Lift
- Southwest Literature Project, including Southwest Books of the Year and the Lawrence Clark Powell Lecture
- Matching Grant for Initial Offering of Digital Books
- Ready to Read
- Starting Points
- Homework Help
- Nuestras Raíces
- Story Town
- Training, Development and Recognition Activities for Library Staff
The library is supported by city and county tax dollars, however there is never enough public funding to provide all of the services and facilities we all desire. The Friends generate funds through book sales, memberships, dues, gifts and memorials. Join the Friends today.
